I am wanting to get a truck because I had one before I bought my current car and I miss having a truck. My car is a black 89 Beretta GT. 2.8 V6 with a 5 speed manual transmission. 164,000 miles on it and it runs and drives like it is much newer then an 89. The body looks great, it just needs some minor touch up work to the paint. It has a new slave cylinder and clutch. Interior looks almost new, except the dash as a little sun damage because it is vinyl. I have an upgraded stereo, 6x9's and an amp installed. It has power windows, locks, antenna, and AC but the AC is currently not working. How much do you think a small used car lot will pay for it? I was thinking around 1500?

Anyone know where I can buy smoked head/tail light film. It's like vinyl, if you know what I'm talking about. I don't want a kit for my car specifically. I want a roll, just as if I were to buy a roll of window tint. I can't seem to find it. I am looking for a shops basically in the Bay Area, California. Preferably San Jose, Fremont, Union City, Milpitas, Hayward, San Leandro, Redwood City, San Francisco and so on. Thanks! I checked at Auto Parts stores already. They don't sell the film. I know they have covers, but that isn't what I want. Yes, I know it is illegal. I'm using it for "off-road" purposes.

There are two apartment complexes I'm looking at: The first one has 100sq feet more room, and seems to be a liiiittle bit better quality than the other apartment (it has nicer hardware on the cupboards, hardwood floors in the kitchen and bathrooms instead of vinyl, etc) However, the office girls I have interacted with seem to always treat me like I am more of an annoyance than a potential renter...they aren't rude, but they definitely aren't nice either. The deposit is $250 and the dog deposit is $500. The application fee is $40, and the rent is $16 more per month than the other place. The second place seems to be a little bit lower quality as far as building materials go, but it is still nice. The windows are very large and the balconies are also larger. This apartment complex has a spa that is open year-round, and is in a much nicer neighborhood than the other apartments. It also has a fireplace in the living room, but the floorplan is a little more cramped. This place has a deposit of only $99, a pet deposit of only $250, and no application fee. Both places have washers and dryers, and both are equally close to work and shopping, etc. Which place would you go for????

I have some moisture build up in between the panes of glass of a sliding glass door and some small opening glass windows. I cannot find any markings on the frames - but one unique feature is that the sliding door fixed frame has a little triangle piece about 3" up and 3" out towards the opening and angled on the opening side of the bottom, fixed in place. No other window I could find has that feature. They are vinyl andhave this printed on the glass of the door on like a decal : AFG TEMP 2981 16CFR-1201-CII ANSI 297-1-1984 5/32V SGCC-1641 _________________________ ..fixed|..............sliding.......| .......|...............................| ........|...............................| ........|...............................| ........|...............................| ........|..\............................| ...3"..|....\..........................| ........|........\......................| .decal|..........\...................| ........|________\_________| ..............3"...................... Help ! I'm sure these are warrantied all I need is to find the manufacturer.

I live in a 1918 craftsman style home that had it's original wooden windows in fairly good condition with storms. I did some weatherization to my home in many areas addressing my windows last. I was instructed by many people to put in vinyl replacements. I went against my gut feeling and did the replacement. "PLEASE SOMEBODY TELL ME I DID THE RIGHT THING"

I got an estimate from a reputable firm for siding. The estimate includes all installation, removal of the old shingles, soffets, capping of about a dozen windows, and new gutters made of of enamel-coated steel, with stainless screen covering them. The siding is heavy, not flimsy. and includes breathable expanded polystyrene insulation with an R-value of 4, as well as a breathable waterproof layer (better than Tyvek I am told). I was surprised at the cost. What is reasonable per square foot for 5,000 square feet? Thanks much. I am told that you must not have a vapor "barrier" - material that does not permit vapor to pass through - because, humidity is trapped on the house's side of the barrier, causing all the problems that you mention. The material that they recommend instead of Tyvek to me has vertical channels down which condensation (aka, water) should flow down to the ground. It is waterproof but lets vapor through, like Gore-tex. Clearly the correct way to install vinyl is a big subject! Their polystyrene also is designed to allow vapor to pass thru.

Our sprinkler set up is not ideal as it sprays our vinyl siding while watering our vegetables. In the past we've had a light yellow coating on the siding which comes off with a power washer. This year, however, the siding has turned a dark rust color and will NOT come off with just the power washer. I do NOT want any chemicals added into the garden below. The rust goes up to the 2nd story windows, covering the entire side of the house (24 feet wide). HELP! :)

I live in a Victorian style home (circa 1900's), and we have a young daughter and lead paint. The inside of the house still has all of its original wood work, and the exterior has vinyl siding, but the porch has not been maintained and it is a mess- paint chips are flaking off, cracking, many mouthable areas. I had a licensed deleader come by today to take a look. To save me some costs, (since I have already taken a class for moderate deleading), he suggested I use a veneer or T-111 siding to cover the porch railings (handrail, balusters, lower rail). I'd never heard of this veneer or T-111 siding, and upon doing some research, I think what he meant was to actually box in the entire railing. I would just replace the railings, but in order to keep the authentic look of older houses, the railings ought to be less height than the window sills- if I replaced them and had to have the railings up to code, it would be awkward considering we want to keep the columns, etc. I don't want to open up a can of worms, but I do want to get my house in compliance with the lead law, and for my family's protection. I would just get them scraped, but to scrape every single baluster in a P.I.T.A and costly. Does anyone have any experience with this or ideas?

I seen this in a magazine and I'm thinking about buying it to put on my windows to keep some of the sun out of my eyes, and also cool my room a little more. The description reads: " This tinted window insulator stops sun glare, helps insulate against the heat and protects your drapes and furniture from fading. Simply press the reusable vinyl film onto your window and trim to fit. Static cling holds it firmly in place and makes it easy to remove with no sticky residue." Will this harm my windows? Would it be worth it?

The room is bubblegum pink with white baseboards. It is going to stay that way but I am going to add a thick black stripe through the middle, spreading along the walls, all through the room. The bed is a twin. A white iron looking bed that used to be a canopy. I have since gotten rid of the canopy part. The furniture I plan to get will be modern looking. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Clear-Glass-Desk-Bookcase-and-Printer-Stand-Value-Bundle/14248187 (printer stand to be used as a bed side table) The dresser will be white to keep the bed tied in. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-4-Drawer-Chest-White/11070276 Chairs in the room will be black. MY PROBLEM IS: I want there to be enough black so the room isn't over powered with pink and white. However, I want a balance. Bedding is kicking my butt. I want something slightly mysterious that i can pull a theme from to incorporate into the rest of the room. so far for bedding: http://www.target.com/DwellStudio-Target-Robin-Comforter-Set/dp/B002AS3FM0/ref=sc_qi_detaillink (Things in ( ) are not included in links) accompanied by: http://www.etsy.com/listing/51643523/removable-vinyl-wall-sticker-decal-art?ref=sr_gallery_11&ga_search_query=vinyl+bird&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=&min=0&max=25&order=date_desc&includes[]=tags&includes[]=title (along main wall) or maybe this on the main wall instead: http://www.etsy.com/listing/51494466/birdcages-with-birds-wall-decal and also by: http://www.etsy.com/listing/50059554/vinyl-wall-decals-stickers-art-graphics?ref=sr_gallery_1&ga_search_query=vinyl+love+birds&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_page=3&order=&includes[]=tags&includes[]=title (over the closet) and this: http://www.etsy.com/listing/39861768/name-with-little-birds-vinyl-wall-decal (over the window) I am going for a mood of mystery created by birds sort of like Edgar Allan Poe's "the raven" what do u think of the idea? any suggestions? any alternative ideas ?

My house was built around 1950 in Massachusetts. It was double-hung windows that do not appear to have counterweights, rather some sort of friction system. Is this possible? All of the window DIY articles I've found assume there is a counterweight that used to have a weight and pulley. And why rope? I remember sash chains where I used to live that seem ideal for the job. In any case, some of the windows stay put. Some do not so I have to prop them up. And on one it's stuck, also there is some sort of rod with some helical thing on it that came out of the stile on one side. How do I repair that, until I can get around to having the windows replaced? Meanwhile the former owner had a few windows replaced in the 1980s with something vinyl and double-paned. None of those stay up any more. I don't think they have counter-weights either. What kinds of repairs would they need?

This is the listing: Welcome to my auction listing for the adoption of five year old Mary. This doll was owned and cherished by a little five year old girl named Mary in the 1960s. She reminds me of little Lorelei that was adopted out several months ago to a wonderful loving family. Mary loved this doll very much. She took her everywhere she went and was her best pal. Mary passed from bacterial meningitis. A older step brother of Mary's kept the spirit doll Mary for years. He attended our psychic metaphysical workshop a few months ago and told us all about his step sister Mary and her doll that she attached to after passing. He mentioned that she would send colorful butterflies as a sign to let hm know she was near. He gave us Mary doll to find a good home for her. We all agree that souls can haunt and attach to inanimate objects such as dolls to communicate their spiritual messages and needs through the veil. Mary is lively and active. She can be obstinate in trying to get attention. She has a habit of tapping on windows and walls if you're too busy to spend time with her. She enjoys being read to and she comments in real short phrases during EVP(electronic voice phenomenon) recording sessions or through telepathy about the story. She loves Dr. Seuss books. "Yurtle The Turtle" is one of her favorites. When you talk to Mary her eyes has this amazing spirit energy that emanates right through! She can drain batteries quickly and has a way of stopping and restarting clocks and watches. You may need to keep extra batteries on hand. It's not unusual for her to turn a light switch off and on. We have been been in a lighted room and all of a sudden the room is dark. She gets a kick out of that. She can be affectionate too. We have had spirit hugs from her. It feels like a "web" engulfing around your body. When she draws near, you may get static in your hair from her energy. The EMF(electro-magnetic force) sensor readings can be moderately high when she manifests and travels in a room as a pinkish speeding orb in flight. Mary would be happiest with a family that can give her a lot of attention and give her the best seat in the house. Mary can be ornery and will tease you if she doesn't get her way. Mary does enjoy interacting with other spirit children and pets. Mary has these unusual spirit eyes. It's as if there is a light within them. When viewing the first photo enlarged the left eye appears to have a "human eye" peering through. There is some subtle kinetic movement where she animates her sleep eyes to half close then open them wider. We have observed this manifestation when her doll host is sitting in a chair. She loves to be held and carried around. Her whole face brightens up! This 19 inch doll is a vintage 1964 Vogue doll. It is stamped Vogue Co. 1964 on the back of her neck. The head, legs, and arms are vinyl. The body is stuffed with a non working crier. Yet, one night her crier mysteriously worked. She has a darling face with unique spirit eyes that vary in shade from blue to green depending on her mood and the lighting in the room. One eye appears bigger than the other. Gives her that haunting "off" look that can is such a signature with haunted spirited dolls. She has been cleaned up but there is some subtle marks and variations on the body due to aging. Mary is in dire need of a new dress or outfit. Her vintage nightgown is too long and worn and she has no shoes. Hopefully her new adoptee family will spoil her with nice clothes, shoes, books, toys, kisses, and hugs :) I must state by law that any item considered paranormal in nature is for "entertainment." I cannot guarantee or be responsible how Mary will manifest in her new home. Treat Mary as member of the family and not a ghost. Thank you for visiting Mary!

i have a 1990 toyota celica that i have fixed up a lot. i love this car to death but i have an ongoing problem that i can't seem to figure out. for a long time now, whenever i wash my car, i have to put blue painters tape around the windows because water gets inside it and rolls down my door panels and stains the vinyl. well on my drivers side, the water comes in by the front of the door, like below where my mirror is. my dad and i have been trying to figure out exactly where the water comes in from for the longest time. it does the same thing on the passenger side and after i dry my whole car when i get inside there is water on both door sills, on both door panels, etc. it's really annoying that we cqn't figure out why or where its coming from. the weatherstripping is old and i'm not sure if replacing it will help.

Home built in the late 1800's. The old house requires repainting every couple of years. The paint has an alligator appearance - very thick, chippy and crackled. Am considering re-siding with fiber board siding rather than vinyl. Is it possible to install the cement siding boards over the existing wood boards or would they need to be removed? Also - I know that when installing vinyl siding, they cut off the sill boards and crown molding around windows/doors. I would prefer to preserve the architectural interest of the home as much as possible. Is the cement siding option kinder to the window and door details then vinyl siding?

This is for window treatments. Of course, the hole would be on the outer frame of the window and not on the sash area. I had some window treatments (blinds) requiring drilling for the bracket, into the wood windows before and was thinking of putting them in the same relative spot. I replaced these windows myself, so I got pretty familiar with the parts but just don't know how safe this is as they cost me some bank. Concerning warranties, I have a transferrable window breakage replacement warranty but I'm unsure as to whatever factory warranty on the window frame, etc exists. I suppose I could just "accidentally" break the window if something goes wrong :-)
07/05/2010 03:40 PM
Thermal expansion of the window frame being much more than the glass unit can result in extreme pressure on the window seals and thermal spacers. If even micro cracks develop, then the expensive argon or Krypton gas leaks out slowly. And goodbye low u value. I saw in a lab testing site that gave Thermal Expansion characteristics of several materials for 20 degree temperature swings. Fiberglass expanded 25% more, aluminum expanded 300% more, vinyl 700% more. Fiberglass can also form thinner molds than vinyl which can hold more urethane foam and thus can obtain lower whole window u values than vinyl frames (which most leave air channels without using foam). Considering this why do window manufacturers all over the world insist on using frame materials that will result in more stress on the glass unit edges from thermal expansion instead of using window frame components made from fiberglass-reinforced protruded polyurethane? If I am going to spend $100/sq ft of window area, I want to be sure that the frame will not expand greater than the glass and will not warp (wood frames in Philippines will do just that from high humidity).

I'm thinking of adding an addition to the house. Debating which is the best window. Double hung or single hung is better to buy a window AC. Single hung to me seems ok since I never open the top of a double hung. Casement windows can capture air and direct it inside but if a person is rough and sloppy, you can break the handle. Sliding windows is easier for a handicapped person but window ACs can't be used. I was thinking of single or double hung for some windows and sliding for others. Maybe one side of the addition with one style and another side with the other. Advice? Also if you recommend a certain brand, let me know. Also wood? Aluminum? Vinyl covered?

I've tried to update my itouch about three times, once leaving it to work overnight. The update status never gets beyond about four percent! My computer has 40 gig ram (I added 32 with Windows Readyboost), so it's not a problem with that. Ipod syncs normally take less than 5 minutes. Maybe it knows I'm a strong believer in the superiority of vinyl.... I've tried to update my itouch about three times, once leaving it to work overnight. My husband left the bath running the other night and forgot about it. I went into the kitchen to find water pouring out of the ceiling, it was coming through a hole where pipes go from the boiler up through the ceiling into the bathroom. We ran upstairs to find a flooded bathroom. Half of my bathroom is vinyl floor tiles and the other half is carpet. Luckily my bathroom is on a slight tilt so most of the water stayed over the floor tiles but some of the carpet did get wet - about 2 ft x 0.5 ft. This seems to be where the water leaked through to the kitchen. So this happened 3 nights ago and I have left all windows open and left a heater in there to help dry it. The carpet is completely dry now and doesnt smell but I am worried about what damage there may be under the carpet! There is a brown patch on the kitchen ceiling but I can paint over that. We live in a rented house and don't want to own up to our landlord but are worried about possible mold growing on the floorboards or something. I have read that I should lift the carpet up and replace the drywall but is this completely necerssay and if so how much would this cost. Im guessing that as the water had somewhere to escape (the pipe hole through the ceiling) this is a good thing as its not just sitting there on the floorboards? How on earth do I open the cealing? Surely it will just dry out even if i dont lift the carpet/open the ceiling? If i do lift the carpet is it easy to put it back again?

...scamming me. I had a fire and the water damage created a huge mold problem. We brought in a contractor who spent 10 days "remediating," during which he tried to get an extra $3000 from me because he said he didn't realize that the water and the mold leaked down to the cellar. We paid him $10,000 and the insurance company paid him $5,000. He brought in an inspector at the end and now they are telling me more work needs to be done because there were particulates in the air, possibly brought on by the contractors outside installing vinyl siding on the day of the testing -- banging on the walls and opening windows. They want more money to go in and clean and test again, and all work stopped on the house until they finish. But won't the dust just be back the next day, as soon as the contractors go back to work and/or open windows again? I live in New Jersey; there are always particulates in the air. I wish there were some government or other source I could ask about this.

I made a pencil drawing on cream bristol art paper. I am almost finished with it; now two small spots near the face have appeared. I had no idea what it might be. It does not come off with a kneed eraser. I suspect it is fly poop. I found one died fly on the paper. The reason I think so is because while cleaning my kitchen windows, I noticed the same type spot on the vinyl part of my window. My grandkids were here and we had more than the normal amount of flies in the house. Assuming that is what it is, how do you remove fly dung from art paper without distroying the paper?

My vinyl windows are so 'tight' I can't open them easily. Is there an easy way to adjust them?

Samples of non-recyclable materials: Non–recyclable paper – wrapping paper that is laminated or contains foreign materials such as foil-coatings or glitter, photographic film, microwave containers, hardcover books, frozen food boxes, thermal fax paper, carbon paper, blueprints, aluminum foil boxes and binders. Treated or contaminated wood - wood treated with preservatives or attached to other materials like sheetrock or window glass Non–recyclable plastic consumer items - some food storage containers, dishware, vinyl, disposable diapers, toys, Formica™, fiberglass, foam materials, and plastics attached to other materials such as kitchenware or auto parts Non–recyclable glass – window glass, mirrors, light bulbs, and cookware I've heard in Japan that they made fertilizer by mixing soil with kitchen wastes and plastics, and plastics which is a non-recyclable material. So I was wondering if I can make fertilizer too by mixing other non-recyclable materials with soil, is it possible?

The pulley mechanism that allows a vinyl replacement window to stay up, is broken on one of my windows. I want see if a replacement part is available, in order to fix it. However, I do not know what the actual piece/mechanism is called. (Lowe's and HD were not very helpful)

I'm ordering a Macbook this week and want to get a decal, and was wondering if I can get any vinyl decal (like a car window decal) to stick. I've never really touched the top of one to see if it would.

Our sills look good- is here any reason not to use conversion kit rather than replacement vinyl windows?

I need to replace 11 windows in my house. I've had three bids- they all pitched the brand they recommend as "the best in the industry". I just don't know who to believe. I live in beautiful, sunny southern California where it mostly hot and rains two weeks out of the year. The temperature hardly ever dips below 50 degrees. Should I choose: A) Simonton 7300 Series @ $9,000 B) Jeld-wen Builder's Series @ $9,500 or C) Anlin Coronado Series @ $11,500 Please explain why especially if you have one of these brands. Thanks.

Because of a marble, we have a cracked (in a perfect circle) window. The window is the typical vinyl- trimmed type. Can it be repaired like auto glass or does it have to be replaced?
